Anna and Callan’s first date was to a little burger and beer joint in Brisbane. They stayed chatting until it closed, because it was pretty clear for both of them what they’d found was something special. Although, the date almost didn’t happen as Anna had sent the wrong name of the place she wanted to go to – Callan was looking for “Mary’s” in Paddington, but it was actually “Remy’s”. Whoops!
When we asked Anna how Callan proposed; “We’d gone for a hike along the Noosa Headland and little did I know that Cal was looking for the spot to ‘pop the question’ the whole time. We ended up going for a swim in one of the little beaches and as we were wading out into the water, Cal stops, kneels down and pulls the ring from his pocket. After the shock, I asked “are you crazy, in the water?!” – I guess love makes you do crazy things.”
They both worked out very early on that if they wanted to achieve the modern boho styled wedding they dreamed of; they’d have to do most of it themselves.
Their reception was at well-known Northern Rivers DIY wedding venue Tintenbar Hall, using bridal inspiration from Pinterest and buying most of their wedding details from op shops, eBay and Marketplace – they used vintage picture frames, native florals and lots and lots of candles. With a lot of patience and some help from family and friends they made their vision come to life.
Anna contacted Lennox Weddings just two weeks before their late March date asking if we’d be able to pull together a beach ceremony for them. This was after a Byron Bay wedding venue had just cancelled their date. Of course, we were happy to oblige, and together with Boho Bay Designs and Ballina Council, we created a stunning boho beach wedding on Lennox Head beach.
“I think having the beach wedding was the perfect setting as we are always at the beach with our family, friends or dog. We got engaged on the beach and we love the outdoors.”
Anna and Callan were one of the thousands of couples impacted by Covid-19 and even though they admit postponing their date was not ideal, looking back they both admit the experience made them stronger and gave them more time to enjoy the planning phase, with most of the big jobs done.
The newlyweds were so happy with everything their vendors did for them, but they did make a special mention to both; Bush to Bay Tours – who supplied that epic school bus for their wedding party to arrive in. And, Ben Wyeth Photography who was comfortable to work with and the images he captured on the day were just amazing.
